UDA Summons Boni Khalwale for Supporting Rival Candidate in Malava By-Election

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party has issued Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale with a show-cause notice, accusing him of gross misconduct and disloyalty for his purported support for a rival candidate in the upcoming Malava parliamentary by-election to be held on November 27, 2025.
In a letter dated October 9, 2025, UDA Disciplinary Committee Chairman Charles Njenga indicated that the party received credible reports and evidence that Khalwale was actively involved in the campaign of Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) candidate Seth Panyako, instead of campaigning for UDA’s flagbearer, David Ndakwa.
According to the ruling party, Khalwale’s actions violated the party’s Constitution and undermined the very organization that sponsored him to the Senate.
“Your said activities clearly demonstrate allegiance to another political party and constitute conduct unbecoming and disloyalty to the United Democratic Alliance Party,” the letter reads in part.
The committee directed Senator Boni Khalwale to respond within 14 days, explaining why the party should not take disciplinary action against him.
UDA further stated that, depending on his response, it may initiate formal disciplinary proceedings where Khalwale will have the right to defend himself or appear before the committee with legal representation.
The notice comes just a week after Khalwale publicly declared his support for Seth Panyako, the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) candidate – a move that raised eyebrows and fueled speculation about his loyalty to UDA.
“Wamalwa anatembea na Kalonzo Musyoka, Fred Matiang’i, Rigathi Gachagua wanamchekelea kwamba wewe uko na nani. Wamalwa, sikia, kuanzia leo ambia wenzako you will never walk alone, kwa sababu uko na bullfighter Senator Boni Khalwale,” Khalwale said during a campaign rally in Malava Constituency on October 8, 2025.
The Malava parliamentary seat fell vacant in February 2025 following the death of MP Malulu Injendi, who passed away while receiving treatment in Nairobi.
