Severe thunderstorms are expected over the north-eastern Mpumalanga and central-eastern parts of Limpopo, according to the South African Weather Service (SAWS).
Impact-based warnings:
Yellow Level 2 warning: Severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours resulting in localised flooding of low-lying areas, bridges, large amounts of small hail, damaging winds, and excessive lightning is expected over the north-eastern Mpumalanga, and central and eastern parts of Limpopo.
Yellow Level 1 warning for damaging waves resulting in difficulty in navigation at sea is expected between Cape Columbine and Plettenberg Bay.
In the SAWS’ colour-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates a moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness, while orange indicates that higher-risk impact is expected, requiring increased attention and preparation.
The SAWS uses numbers to indicate the likelihood of weather-based impacts occurring. Levels 2 and 6 are high, and Level 4 is low.
