Moses Kuria Slams Gachagua’s ‘Rookie Advisers’ as He Eyes Nairobi Governorship

Former Presidential Advisor and Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has reignited his political feud with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of poor leadership and surrounding himself with inexperienced advisers.
Kuria’s outburst came after Gachagua’s allies dismissed his call for unity in the Mt. Kenya region, a proposal he said was conditional on the former Deputy President ceasing his verbal attacks on women leaders.
“After my offer to work with our self-declared kingpin on the condition he stops insulting women leaders, this is how his kitchen cabinet has responded to my offer for unity of our region,” Kuria wrote on X.
He went on to criticize Gachagua’s leadership approach, arguing that it falls far short of the standards set by past leaders from the Mt. Kenya region.
“The problem with Rigathi Gachagua is that unlike Jomo Kenyatta, Mwai Kibaki, and Uhuru Kenyatta, he surrounds himself with neophytes and rookies. The bar has fallen too low,” Kuria stated.
Kuria’s remarks were triggered by Kiambu Senator Karungo Thangwa, a close ally of Gachagua, who had publicly dismissed his unity offer. Thangwa accused Kuria of being a political tool for President William Ruto, claiming he was on a mission to divide the Mt. Kenya region.
“Moses Kuria, we have seen you. Riggy G (Rigathi Gachagua) is not one to be instructed. Ruto is the one to be given instructions,” Thangwa said.
The Senator further asserted that before Kuria could even think of joining the Gachagua-led Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), he must first earn acceptance within his own county, Kiambu. Thangwa added that as the sitting Senator, Kuria would have to go through him to reach the people.
Moses Kuria Announces 2027 Nairobi Governor Bid
Amid the ongoing political spat, Kuria has declared his intention to contest the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2027, setting the stage for a possible face-off with the current Governor, Johnson Sakaja.
The former Gatundu South MP said his decision was influenced by President William Ruto’s recent remarks expressing disappointment over Nairobi’s deteriorating state, characterized by uncollected garbage, rampant filth, and widespread administrative inefficiency.
“Dear President William Ruto. Today you spoke to my heart. Like Prime Minister Baba Raila Amolo Odinga has told me countless times, Nairobi cannot continue to be the City of filth, garbage, and incompetence. I have heard your cry. That is why I will offer myself to be the Governor of the great County of Nairobi in 2027,” Kuria announced on his social media pages.
President Ruto, during a Sunday service to mark AIC Ziwani Church’s 70 years of faith and service, unveiled a new partnership between the national government and Nairobi City County to tackle the capital’s persistent waste management challenges.
He said the initiative will involve collaboration with private sector players to improve waste collection and disposal efforts across Nairobi.
“Nairobi cannot continue to be the city in the filth. You see that we have already started cleaning the Nairobi River. And now all estates are in the final stages of signing an agreement with the private sector on how we are going to clean this city. It cannot continue the way it is,” the President said.
