LUKONGA Munalisa Chawila, a 51-year-old Namibian man, was found dead in front of the Protea Hotel in Katima Mulilo after an alleged hippo attack.
According to the weekend crime bulletin, the incident occurred on Saturday, 18 October 2025, at or between 05:00 and 06:00 at the Protea Hotel. It is alleged that the deceased, Chawila, was found at the hotel around 06:00 after being attacked by a hippo.
According to a witness, he was with the victim at around 05:00 at the guardroom before the victim left. At around 06:00, the witness went to switch off the lights around the hotel and discovered the lifeless body. Hippo tracks were observed and were clearly visible at the scene.
The victim had visible injuries on his stomach, leg, and head. The next of kin were informed, and the body was taken to the mortuary at Katima Mulilo State Hospital.
