FIFTY students from the Deutsche Höhere Privatschule, Delta Secondary School, and Namib High School recently participated in a weekend workshop at Goanikontes, aimed at preparing them for the German Language Diploma (DSD).
The two-day event, held in early October, offered learners an opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the German language and culture through a variety of interactive and creative activities. Participants danced, cooked, played sports, and even created inventions — all conducted in German.
As a special highlight, the group hiked to the historic Weitzenberg ruins, a former German farmhouse destroyed by a flood in 1917.
The workshops were a joint effort between the three schools, the German Language Department of the University of Namibia (UNAM), and the German Embassy in Windhoek, with funding provided by the Federal Republic of Germany.
The German Embassy expressed appreciation to all volunteers, the Goanikontes team, and everyone involved, describing the weekend as a great success and a reminder of the value of language, culture, and collaboration.
