‘Coward of the Century’: Cherargei Rips Into Kalonzo for Snubbing Mashujaa Day Celebrations

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has criticized Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka for skipping the Mashujaa Day celebrations held on Monday in his Ukambani backyard at Ithookwe Stadium, Kitui County.
In a fiery social media post, the outspoken legislator, a close ally of President William Ruto, accused Kalonzo of lacking patriotism and described him as “a coward of the century.”
“Kalonzo is a coward of the century; by skipping the Mashujaa Day national celebrations that was unpatriotic to the country yet all Ukambani are attending in mammoth crowds,” Cherargei wrote.
The Senator further alleged that Kalonzo had fled to the United Kingdom (UK) to “hide” and only returned for the burial of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on October 19, 2025.
“Kalonzo had run away to the United Kingdom (UK) to hide but came back because of Jakom’s funeral. He must have confused the event because this is a national celebration, not a political rally,” Cherargei charged.
He went on to question Kalonzo’s patriotism, saying,
“He pretends to be a nationalist and patriotic but he cannot honour a national holiday to celebrate our national heroes.”
Kindiki, Cherargei Push to Woo Kalonzo
Cherargei’s remarks come at a time when senior government figures are reportedly trying to woo Kalonzo to join forces with President Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Just over a week ago, Cherargei had expressed confidence that the former Vice President would eventually team up with the President.
“Mark you, in a couple of months, the former vice president shall be in a working political relationship with President Ruto. That’s where his future lies,” he wrote.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has also openly vowed to bring Kalonzo into the government fold. Addressing grassroots leaders in Kitui County on October 1, 2025, Kindiki praised Kalonzo’s character but blamed his political circle.
“Kalonzo is a noble and decent man, but he has aligned himself with people promoting divisive rhetoric. I have still not given up on that brother of mine. We cannot accept our brother, a learned man and a scholar, to be influenced by people promoting sectarianism,” Kindiki said.
Despite the overtures, Kalonzo has remained firm in rejecting any alliance with the ruling administration.
