DESPITE assurances by Namibia Post Limited (NamPost) that its ongoing national social grant registration and payment process is progressing well and that there were only “minor logistical challenges,” the situation on the ground remains chaotic, with large numbers of social grant beneficiaries flocking to post offices and mobile pay points where long queues are the order of the day.
In at least one instance, a NamPost mobile team that visited the Onambili pay point in the Omusati Region left without doing their job after the beneficiaries allegedly “misbehaved.”
NamPost said that a significant number of beneficiaries have been successfully registered and paid within the first three days of the rollout, which kicked off on the 13th of this month.
The new payment system integrates in-branch and mobile payment units, operating in parallel to improve accessibility.
