THE Deputy Minister of International Relations and Trade, Jenelly Matundu, represented Namibia at the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women in Beijing, where she highlighted the country’s progress in advancing gender equality and empowering women.
The meeting, hosted by the Government of China, was convened under the theme: “One Shared Future: New and Accelerated Processes for Women’s All-Round Development.”
It aimed to bring together heads of state, policymakers, and advocates from around the world to reflect on progress made and to renew global commitments to advancing women’s rights and gender equality, 30 years after the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in 1995.

“Matundu’s participation reaffirms Namibia’s unwavering commitment to achieving full gender equality in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the vision of a more inclusive and equitable world for all,” the Ministry of International Relations and Trade highlighted.
During the meeting, Matundu outlined Namibia’s key achievements in promoting gender equality and empowering women. She emphasised the country’s leading role in the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, and noted that Namibia has closed 81.1% of its gender gap—ranking 8th globally and 1st on the African continent.
“Women now hold 57% of Cabinet positions and 38.5% of parliamentary seats – a true reflection of women’s leadership under the historic presidency of H.E. Dr Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah,” the Ministry added.
