POLICE in the Hardap and Omusati regions are investigating two separate murder cases reported over the weekend — one believed to have resulted from self-defence during a robbery attempt in Rehoboth, and another fatal stabbing in Okahao.
According to the weekend crime report, in Rehoboth, the incident occurred between Saturday night and early Sunday morning near Dr. Olivier’s Veterinary Practice in Block B.
According to the police, a 28-year-old man was walking home after watching a soccer match when he was attacked by three men who robbed him of his cellphone and stabbed him.
The victim reportedly fought back in self-defence, striking one of the assailants with his fists. The other two robbers fled the scene with the stolen cellphone.
Police officers on patrol later discovered one of the attackers, a 21-year-old man, lying unconscious nearby. He was rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The man who acted in self-defence also sustained injuries and remains hospitalised. A case of murder (self-defence) has been opened, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted as part of ongoing investigations.
Meanwhile, in Okahao, police are investigating a separate murder that occurred on Friday night at Olundjinda location, Okathitu Kambanda village in the Ogongo Constituency.
It is alleged that an Angolan male suspect stabbed another Angolan man once in the chest with a sharp object, killing him instantly. The motive for the attack remains unknown, and the suspect fled the scene after the incident. Police have identified the suspect and continue to search for him. The deceased’s identity and age have not yet been confirmed.
Police investigations in both cases continue.
