
LILONGWE, Oct. 16 — The Malawian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Tuesday that eight out of 22 Malawians involved in the fatal bus accident in South Africa‘s Limpopo Province on Sunday remain missing.
In a statement, the ministry said 14 Malawians have so far been identified and accounted for. Among them, eight are receiving treatment in various hospitals, while six have been discharged.
Officials from the Malawi High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa‘s administrative capital, are working closely with local authorities conducting forensic identification of the deceased and tracing the missing persons, according to the statement.
The ministry said the government is extending consular assistance to all affected Malawians, ensuring that those injured receive appropriate medical care and support.
Media reports indicate that the bus, which was en route to Zimbabwe and Malawi, was carrying more than 90 passengers from various countries when it crashed, leaving 43 people dead and 41 other injured. (Xinhua)
