KAMPALA, Nov. 3 — Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Monday congratulated Samia Suluhu Hassan on her election as president of Tanzania.
In a post on his official X account, Museveni said Hassan’s victory reflects the confidence that the people of Tanzania have in her leadership and vision.
The Ugandan leader said the two countries share historic bonds of friendship and cooperation. “I look forward to working with President Samia to further strengthen our partnership in trade, infrastructure, and regional integration for the peace and prosperity of our peoples,” Museveni said.
During the Oct. 29 presidential election, Hassan defeated 16 opposition candidates, securing a victory that extends her party’s long-standing dominance in Tanzania’s political landscape and makes her the country’s first elected female president.
She previously served as vice president from 2015 to 2021 and first assumed the presidency in March 2021 following the death of then-President John Magufuli, marking a historic milestone as Tanzania’s first female head of state. (Xinhua)
