KAMPALA, Nov. 3 — Ugandan police on Monday called for calm following weekend attacks on security installations in the western part of the country, saying the situation has been brought under control.
Uganda Police Force spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma told a weekly security briefing in Kampala that investigations are ongoing into the attacks by unidentified armed groups targeting military and police posts in Kasese, Bundibugyo, and Kabarole districts.
“We have arrests; there were fatal casualties; there were injuries on the side of security agencies. We urge the public to remain calm and continue with their daily activities.
We managed to counter the threat, and I can confirm that we managed to suppress it,” Kituuma said. He added that a detailed report would be released once investigations are complete, noting that investigators are getting good leads.
The Ugandan military said that on Saturday, attackers armed with submachine guns and machetes launched assaults on the Lugendabara Police Post in Kasese, military positions in Malindi and Kakuka in Bundibugyo, and Canon Apollo School in Fort Portal, Kabarole District. The military said one civilian and one soldier were killed in the attacks. (Xinhua
