The Namibian Police are investigating two separate stabbing incidents reported at Tsumeb and in Windhoek in the early hours of Saturday.
At Nomtsoub, Tsumeb, a 30-year-old man died after he was stabbed during a fight at a bar around 03h30 on Saturday.
Police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi said Tangeni Erastus Haifidi was stabbed once with a sharp object.
He was declared dead on arrival at Tsumeb Hospital.
It is alleged that a quarrel broke out between Haifidi and a group of suspects at the bar. The argument escalated into a fight, which led to the stabbing.
Haifidi’s next of kin have been informed. The suspect has not been arrested.
Shikwambi said: “We are urging community members to avoid confrontations that can easily turn violent. These incidents are preventable.”
In the second incident, a man was stabbed in the Goreangab Dam area in Windhoek at about 00h42 on Saturday.
The police reported that Jovani Willen Oxurub was stabbed on the left side of his neck with a knife and later died at Katutura Intermediate Hospital.
It is alleged that the incident started when the suspect touched Oxurub’s girlfriend inappropriately, leading to an argument. The confrontation escalated and resulted in the fatal stabbing.
The suspect has been arrested and Oxurub’s next of kin have been informed.
Shikwambi said the police are concerned about the frequency of violent confrontations about minor disputes.
“We continue to call for restraint and for people to walk away when emotions run high,” she said.
Investigations in both matters are ongoing.
