ANKARA, Dec. 11 — Turkish gendarmerie forces have detained 92 suspects in nationwide raids targeting the Islamic State (IS) over the past two weeks, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said Thursday.
The suspects were detained across 22 provinces, including Adana, Bursa, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, Hatay and Istanbul, Yerlikaya said on social media platform X.
The gendarmerie forces found that the suspects had spread propaganda for the terrorist organization through social media accounts, he said.
“We continue our operations, day and night, 365 days a year, to ensure peace and stability in every region of our country,” he added.
Video footage posted on his X account showed gendarmerie forces entering apartments and buildings and putting suspects into vehicles.
The Turkish government designated IS as a terrorist organization in 2013, blaming it for a series of deadly attacks in the country.
Since then, the country has carried out counter-terrorism operations both domestically and abroad to crack down on IS members and activities. (Xinhua)
