THE application period for student permits for the 2026 academic year will officially open on Monday, 3 November 2025.
“The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security hereby informs the general public, particularly prospective foreign students who are enrolled or intend to enrol with Namibian educational institutions, that the application period for Student Permits for the 2026 academic year will officially open on 3 November 2025 and close on 20 March 2026,” said Nghidinua Daniel, the Ministry’s Executive Director for Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security.
Daniel advised all foreign students to submit their Student Permit applications within the stipulated period, as no extensions will be granted beyond the 20 March 2026 deadline.
Application forms can be obtained from the Ministry’s official website at www.mha.gov.na and must be fully completed, signed, and accompanied by certified copies of all required supporting documents before submission. Student permit fees are payable once the application is approved. The fees for primary and secondary education are N$1,600, while the fees for tertiary education are N$2,200.
“Applications for courses lasting less than one year may be submitted at any time, provided the applicant has a valid offer from a Namibian educational institution and remains outside Namibia while awaiting the outcome of the application,” Daniel said.
He highlighted that approval letters or acknowledgement receipts issued by the Ministry are not valid Student Permits and cannot be used as proof of permit status at any port of entry.
“The Ministry issues a stern warning to foreign students who obtain Student Permits but fail to attend classes and instead engage in other activities or business ventures. Such conduct is a serious violation of immigration laws, and strict measures will be taken against offenders,” Daniel added.
