MULTIPLE fatal road accidents were reported nationwide over the weekend, with seven people losing their lives and several others sustaining serious injuries, according to the Weekend Serious Incidents Report issued by the Namibian Police.
In Werda, at about 12:19 along the C35 between Werda and Omakange, the driver of a white Isuzu double cab reportedly failed to control the vehicle on a sharp curve. The vehicle left the road, overturned and rolled several times, ejecting five passengers. Two passengers died on the scene, while four others, including the driver, were seriously injured.
A tragic accident occurred in the King Nehale area at around 15:58 at Oshamakaka village. A 46-year-old man reversing a truck during electrical wiring works allegedly drove over Mateus Kristian Wapota (10), who was sleeping under a tree. The child died instantly.
In Otjomuise, a case of culpable homicide and reckless and/or negligent driving occurred around 19:50 near the Rocky Crest–Khomasdal traffic lights on Sam Nujoma Drive. A motor vehicle collided with a government (GRN) vehicle, which then crashed into an Amarok. The accident killed two men — Lukas Nangolo (50) and George Shiluwa (38) — on the spot.
A case of reckless and/or negligent driving was reported in Soweto, Omulunga, Grootfontein, at about 13:30. A 53-year-old woman driving a grey Nissan March struck a 20-year-old pedestrian who was crossing the road with her one-year-old child. Both the woman and the child were injured.
Around 01:30 at Ndiyona village on the Trans-Caprivi Highway in Kavango East, Muyenga Lukas (25) died on the spot after being hit by a truck while crossing the road. The driver did not stop.
An adult male was struck by a vehicle, which fled the scene at about 01:30, roughly 300 metres west of the Daan Viljoen checkpoint in Otjomuise. The victim sustained a broken left thigh and multiple bruises.
At approximately 09:33 on the C23, 15 km from Dordabis opposite Marula Game Ranch, 29-year-old Blomtze Klaas, the sole occupant of a white Volkswagen minibus, crashed into a bridge and died instantly.
Police investigations into all incidents are ongoing.
