MULTIPLE housebreaking incidents were recorded across the country over the weekend, according to the Weekend Serious Incidents Report issued by the Namibian Police. The cases involved break-ins at private homes, businesses and entertainment establishments, with suspects stealing cash, electronics and household goods.
In Ongwediva, a housebreaking incident was reported at around 04:00 in New Reception, Etameko. The victim, who had been away, was alerted by a neighbour who noticed the door open and belongings scattered. Suspects allegedly broke the padlock to gain entry and stole a double bed with mattress, a fridge, a fan, four pillows, four blankets and beddings valued at N$11,080. No arrests or recoveries have been made.
A break-in occurred around 02:00 in Nkurenkuru, Kavango West, at a local bar in Mayara village. Suspects reportedly broke the padlock and stole alcohol, a television set and N$4,000 in cash. A smashed jackpot machine was recovered, but no arrests have been made.
A second Nkurenkuru incident was reported at about 12:29 in the Industrial Area. The suspect allegedly lifted a zinc sheet to enter the premises and stole a bluetooth speaker, two solar bulbs, a CC lamp solar bulb and four trousers. Some items — including the speaker, bulbs and a trouser — were recovered, and a 36-year-old male suspect was arrested.
A housebreaking and robbery case was reported around 04:00 in, Khomasdal, Katutura. The suspect allegedly cut the window burglar bars to enter the home and threatened the occupants with a pistol and a panga. Stolen items included two laptops, five iPhones, three handbags, spectacles, a rifle, two watches and N$400 cash. No arrest or recovery has been made.
In Henties Bay, between midnight and 06:00, suspect(s) allegedly removed a burglar bar to gain entry into a house. Stolen items included two laptops, a laptop bag, a wallet, a vanity bag, a jewellery bag and foreign currency — 2,000 Zambian kwacha and 100 US dollars — valued at N$50,200. No arrests have been made.
In Katima Mulilo, a break-in occurred around 08:00 at a local shop in the Zambezi Region. The suspect allegedly cut through the roof, damaged eight jackpots, cut alarm cables and stole N$59,089 in cash. No arrest or recovery has been made.
Police investigations into all cases are ongoing.
