Senator Boni Khalwale Ejected from Senate for Breaching Dress Code
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale was ejected from the Senate chambers on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, for violating the House’s strict dress code.
The incident occurred during afternoon session when Khalwale, the Senate Majority Whip, wore a turtleneck pullover under his jacket and not the prescribed formal attire.
Migori Senator Eddy Oketch brought up the matter, asking Speaker Amason Kingi if the dressing was up to parliamentary standards.
“I am standing under Rule 15 of the Speaker’s dress code. I just wanted clarity on whether the Majority Whip is dressed accordingly, so that next time I show up in a turtleneck in this cold, I can be able to do so. I just wanted clarification from the Speaker,” Oketch stated.
Speaker Kingi later ruled that Khalwale was in breach of the official dress code and ordered him to leave the chambers and return properly dressed.
“The person should be dressed in a coat, collar, tie, long trousers, socks, and shoes, or service uniform, religious attire, or other approved dressings. Senator Boni, you are in breach of this particular rule, and I will allow you to dress as per the rule and come back immediately,” Speaker Kingi declared.
He went on to note that every member is required to follow the stipulated dressing, which does not include casuals such as turtlenecks unless in special exemptions.
Following the directive, Senator Khalwale complied and left the chambers.
