Washington Spirit forward Trinity Rodman has become the world’s highest-paid female footballer after signing a new three-year contract with Washington Spirit, her agent confirmed.
The 23-year-old, daughter of former NBA star Dennis Rodman, had been a free agent since her previous deal with the Spirit expired on December 31, 2025.
As reported by BBC Sport on Friday, her new contract is reportedly worth $2 million per year, including bonuses, keeping her with the club through 2028.
Rodman said the deal was “amazing” and called it a “monumental and game-changing moment.”
Previously, Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati, winner of the Ballon d’Or in 2023, 2024, and 2025, was the highest-earning female footballer.
The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) introduced a new “High Impact Player” rule in December 2025, allowing teams to spend up to $1 million over the salary cap on exceptional players. The salary cap in 2025 was $3.5 million per team.
“Trinity is a generational player, but more importantly, she represents the future of this club and the future of women’s soccer,” said Washington Spirit owner Michele Kang.
Rodman helped the Spirit win the NWSL Championship in her debut season in 2021 and was named NWSL Rookie of the Year. She has earned 47 caps for the United States, scoring 11 goals since her debut in 2022, including three goals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where the USA won gold.
Her father, Dennis Rodman, won five NBA Championships with the Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls.
