THREE motor vehicle accidents — including a fatal incident near Groot Aub — were recorded by the Namibian Police over the weekend. The incidents occurred in Omuthiya, Khorixas, and Groot Aub, and involved cases of negligent driving, a hit-and-run, and a culpable homicide.
According to the weekend serious incidents report, an accident occurred on the B1 road near the Oamites turn-off, where a pedestrian died after being hit by a tow-in vehicle travelling from Windhoek towards Rehoboth. The unidentified male reportedly ran onto the road and was fatally struck by a white Isuzu double cab carrying three passengers. The deceased has not been identified, and next of kin are yet to be notified.
A 24-year-old pedestrian sustained minor injuries after being struck by a Toyota D4D along the main road between Omuthiya and Ondangwa, near the Omuthiya ELCIN Church. Police say the 37-year-old female driver bumped the pedestrian with the vehicle’s side mirror. The victim was taken to Omuthiya District Hospital for treatment.
In Khorixas, two government vehicles were involved in a collision along DR Libertine Amadhila Street. A Toyota Land Cruiser allegedly crashed into the rear of a Toyota Legend 45 that had stopped at an intersection. The driver of the Land Cruiser then reversed and fled the scene. Police are still tracing the suspect.
