Ambassadors of regional states and major donor countries on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 called for peace in South Sudan following a meeting.
The diplomatic corpse shared grave concerns about the state of peace and stability in the country on Tuesday.
They said, “We agree on the urgent need for immediate action by South Sudanese leaders to advance peace through inclusive dialogue,” adding that “President Salva Kiir Mayardit and First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar have a central role to play in this process.”
The ambassadors said, “Constructive engagement, compromise and sustained dialogue are essential to prevent further deterioration of the political and security situation.”
They said the statement was supported by ambassadors and representatives from the embassies of Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Norway, the Netherlands, Sudan, Uganda, the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as the Delegation of the European Union.
They added, “We reaffirm our commitment to continue engaging with South Sudanese authorities and all stakeholders in support of peace and stability.”
