WIDESPREAD showers have been recorded across Namibia over the past 48 hours, with farmers and residents sharing rainfall figures ranging from light drizzles to heavy downpours exceeding 90mm in some areas.
The highest reported totals came from camps along the Kwando River in the Zambezi Region, where between 80mm and 90mm was measured overnight. Stoeifontein, between Koës and Aroab in the Kalahari, also reported 75mm, while the Grootfontein area recorded 112mm in just 29 hours.

Several parts of the south and east also saw significant rainfall. Cadillac, east of Gobabis, recorded 50mm, while Rooipan near Koës measured 17mm, with soft rain still falling. Blumtal, north of Aroab, reported between 55mm and 80mm, with totals for November now exceeding 100mm in some fields.
In the Hardap Region, multiple areas reported steady rain: 41mm in Hardap North, 31mm southwest of Mariental, and 23mm in Mariental South. Dassiesfontein collected 18mm, while Flying Ostrich Guesthouse recorded a combined 40mm between yesterday and overnight.
Smaller but welcome amounts were also measured across urban centres, including 7mm in Pionierspark and 4mm in Suiderhof, Windhoek.

- Farm Bergen: 48mm
- Haiwatha, northeast of Aroab: 26mm
- Poortje, southeast of Gobabis: 16mm
- Otjiwarongo (Siemens Street): 26mm
- Emilienhof, south of Tsumeb: 24mm
- Macduffs Castle near Bethanie: 20mm
- Kameelpan near Leonardville: 30mm
Farmers expressed relief and gratitude for the rain, with many describing it as “blessed” and “long-awaited.” For several locations, including Blumtal and Otjosondu north of Hochfeld, this was the first rain of the season.
More showers are expected as the rainy season continues.
