Police Recover MP Kaluma’s Bodyguard Gun After Polling Station Attack
Homa Bay County Police Commander Lawrence Koilim has confirmed the recovery of a firearm belonging to MP Peter Kaluma’s bodyguard, which went missing after the legislator was attacked at the Agoro Sare polling station.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, November 27, 2025, Koilim said police recovered the weapon after a hot pursuit of the assailants, who abandoned it during their escape. Intelligence from informers guided officers to the firearm, which is now in police custody and will be returned to the MP’s aide.
“Because of the hot pursuit of the goons, they dropped the gun somewhere, and we were informed by our informer through intelligence. The gun is with us complete, and nothing has been lost. We were able to recover so many crude weapons; we recovered a lot of pangas, a lot of machetes, a lot of knives,” Koilim said.
The commander added that the recovered firearm was not tampered with and that no ammunition had been used or lost.

In Kasipul Kabondo, police have also arrested 23 suspects who had been ferried into the constituency to cause chaos in the by-elections. Authorities found them carrying crude weapons, including pangas, machetes, batons, knives, and metal rods.
The incident happened after rowdy youths attacked MP Kaluma, who was the agent for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Boyd Were at the Agoro Sare polling station. The legislator was left injured, with his shirt stained with blood.
Kaluma claimed the attackers were associated with Kasipul independent candidate Philip Aroko, accusing Aroko of inciting the youths to attack him.
“And he was telling them as I’m talking with them, ‘Beat him. These youths are from Kibra and Mathare; these youths are from Ruaraka, and we know all of them,’” Kaluma said, identifying the attackers as known operatives from Mathare, Kibra, and Ruaraka.
