PRESIDENT Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah will officially open the Third Session of the Eighth Parliament on Tuesday, 3 February 2026, at 14:30.
This significant annual event on the national calendar of the Republic of Namibia will be held under the theme: “Enhancing the role of Parliament for inclusive development and participatory democracy.”
The official opening of Parliament brings together the three arms of State—namely the Executive, the Legislature and the Judiciary—and will be marked by a Guard of Honour, including a military parade and a twenty-one gun salute.
The following are some of the Bills that may be tabled during the 2026 parliamentary sessions: the Public Enterprises and Governance Amendment Bill; the Petroleum (Exploration and Production) Amendment Bill; the Land Bill; the Mental Health Bill; the Regional Councils Amendment Bill; and the Public Accountants and Auditors Bill. Another pending Bill is the Income Tax Amendment Bill.
These Bills are expected to be tabled in the National Assembly during the 2026 legislative year.
The reopening of Parliament also comes amid criticism that MPs did not pass a single Bill last year. However, the tabling of new Bills remains dependent on their finalisation by the Ministry of Justice and Labour Relations.
