Authorities in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area say one person was killed and two others injured in a road ambush in Pochalla South County.
Information Minister Jacob Warchum Juok said the incident occurred on Monday morning, January 19, 2026, at around 9 a.m. along the Nyun–Pochalla South Road. Three travellers were attacked by unknown assailants while traveling from Nyun to Pochalla South.
He said a 32-year-old man died on the spot, while the two other victims sustained minor injuries. The injured were evacuated to Pochalla South Clinic for treatment.
“In the early hours of Monday, January 2026, three travellers from Nyun to Pochalla South County were ambushed by unidentified attackers. So, in the process one person was killed while two others sustained minor injuries as the wounded now currently being evacuated to Pochalla for further treatment,” Warchum said.
The minister said security forces, including police and other organized forces, have been deployed to the area to secure the road and allow civilians to move freely.
“As government, we have dispatched local security forces including police and organized forces to go and secure the road and let the travellers to continue using the road. So, this is what happened today. This morning at around 9am,” he added.
Warchum said authorities will launch an investigation to identify the attackers and bring them to justice.
