The Mayor of Nimule municipality has requested that a monthly percentage of the revenue collected from the Nimule weighbridge be allocated to the municipality.
The Nimule weighbridge, installed in 2024, is a large scale used to measure the weight of vehicles and their contents.
It is considered vital for reducing road damage caused by overloaded vehicles.
According to Mayor Ceasor Longa Fuli, the allocation will ensure that the community and local authorities benefit from revenues collected within their jurisdiction.
“We request that a defined monthly percentage of the revenue be allocated to the municipality in line with practices in other parts of South Sudan where communities and local authorities benefit from revenues generated within their jurisdictions,” he said speaking to state-run broadcaster SSBC on Wednesday.
He added that the proposal aligns with practices already implemented in other parts of the country.
