KwaZulu-Natal Organised Crime Narcotics police officers have dismantled a suspected drug syndicate following the arrest of three people in Umzinto, with drugs valued at more than R1.6 million seized during the operation.
The arrests were made on Friday, after police acted on intelligence pointing to a foreign national from a west African country, his South African girlfriend, and an alleged accomplice from a central African country suspected of dealing in drugs in Umzinto and surrounding areas.
KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said officers conducted further investigations and obtained the necessary search warrants before moving in.

Just before 06:00, police intercepted the main suspect while he was driving.
A search of the vehicle revealed “crystal meth concealed under the driver’s seat”, as well as an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be proceeds of crime.
He was arrested, and his vehicle seized.
A subsequent search at his Malangeni residence led to the recovery of various drugs hidden under a bed.
Police then proceeded to the home of his girlfriend. She was found in possession of cocaine, crack cocaine and crystal meth, and was also arrested.
The final stop was at a residence on Nelson Mandela Road, where officers arrested a third person after discovering nearly 5 000 heroin capsules and close to 800g of heroin powder.
