Bauchi Central senator, Abdul Ningi, has said the Senate was not aware of the United States airstrikes on Nigerian territory.
Speaking during plenary on Tuesday, Ningi said such attacks make Nigeria vulnerable to other countries and powers.
Raising a point of order and speaking on privileges, the lawmaker prayed that the nation’s service chiefs be invited to explain to the Senate how the attack came about.
He suggested that the United States lacks the power to attack or attempt to bomb terrorist camps and locations in Nigeria.
According to Ningi, the development was a constitutional breach. He insisted that members of National Assembly were not aware of the airstrikes.
“The Senate should order the service chiefs to brief the Senate on territorial integrity of the country,” he said.
DAILY POST reported that President Donald Trump had announced that the US military successfully carried out airstrikes in Nigeria.
Trump said he ordered the strikes which he described as “a powerful and deadly strike” against ISIS-affiliated terrorists in northwest Nigeria.
The US strikes, which the Nigerian government admitted to have provided the intelligence, hit some terrorist locations in Sokoto State.
