The Minister of Health, Sarah Cleto Rial, has described the late senior Eye Radio journalist Emmanuel Joseph Akile as a distinguished and beloved media professional.
Akile, a longtime presenter of Eye Radio’s flagship program The Dawn Show, died on December 30, 2025, at a hospital in Gudele after a short illness.
In a condolence message addressed to the Chief Executive Officer of Eye Media, the parent company of Eye Radio, Minister Rial said Akile’s death is a great loss not only to his family and colleagues, but also to the nation.
“It is with a heavy heart that I write to express my profound sadness upon hearing the news of the untimely passing of Emmanuel Joseph Akile, a distinguished and beloved veteran journalist at Eye Radio, who left us on December 30, 2025. Emmanuel’s contributions to journalism in South Sudan extended far beyond his professional duties; he was a dedicated advocate for the marginalised and an unwavering champion of truth and integrity,” she said.
The minister praised Akile’s commitment to journalism, saying he worked tirelessly to inform and empower communities through The Dawn Show.
She said his work helped shape public debate and inspired many young journalists, highlighting the important role of the media in society.
“The loss of Emmanuel is not just a heartbreaking event for his family and friends; it is a significant loss for our nation,” she said.
Minister Rial extended her condolences to Akile’s family, friends, and colleagues, and urged them to find comfort in the memories of his life and the lasting impact of his work in journalism.
