President Salva Kiir Mayardit of the Republic of South Sudan has congratulated President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda on his re-election following the presidential elections held earlier this week.
In an official congratulatory message posted on the Office of the President’s official Facebook Page on Saturday, addressed to the President-Elect, Kiir praised Museveni’s victory and wished him success as he continues to serve the people of Uganda.
“I would like to warmly congratulate you on your landslide re-election victory,” President Kiir said, adding that the people of Uganda had once again entrusted Museveni with leadership by electing him for a seventh term in office.
President Kiir emphasized the importance of strong relations between the two neighboring countries, noting that he looks forward to working closely with Museveni to advance bilateral cooperation and to strengthen collaboration on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
Uganda held its general elections in January, with President Museveni, who has been in power since 1986, declared the winner by the country’s electoral authorities.
The elections attracted regional and international attention due to Uganda’s strategic role in East Africa and its involvement in regional peace and security efforts, including in South Sudan.
Uganda and South Sudan share close historical, economic, and security ties, with Kampala playing a key role in mediation efforts and trade within the region.
President Kiir concluded his message by offering assurances of his highest consideration to the Ugandan leader.
