Junet: Collaboration with President Ruto Brings Quick Development Gains
Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed has defended Nyanza leaders’ decision to collaborate with President William Ruto, highlighting the tangible development gains the partnership is bringing to the region.
The National Assembly minority leader made the remarks on Thursday, January 29, 2026, shortly after the launch of the NYOTA programme and other development projects in Kisii County. He stressed that boosting the economic growth of the Gusii region is vital not only for Nyanza but for Kenya’s broader development.
“Economic development of Gusii region contributes to the overall development of Nyanza region and Kenya. As leaders of Nyanza region under ODM Party, we are working together with H.E the President under the Broad Based Government arrangement to deliver quick gains for Our People,” Junet said.
Junet noted that the government is currently investing billions of shillings in public infrastructure across Nyanza, with many projects slated for completion before the next general election. He described the collaboration with the national government as a pragmatic move aimed at addressing long-standing development challenges in the region.
“The government is investing billions worth of public infrastructure projects we expect to be completed before the forthcoming elections. Joined H.E. President @WilliamsRuto to launch NYOTA programme and other development projects in Kisii County,” Junet wrote on X.
The MP’s statements come days after he revealed that the ODM party is already exploring political alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections, starting with ongoing negotiations with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
During a local TV interview on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, Junet said that while ODM prefers an agreement with UDA, the party remains open to engaging other political parties if talks stall.
“ODM will be in a broad-based government until 2027, and that’s why, as a party, we have already started negotiations for 2027, beginning with UDA. If we don’t reach an agreement, we will engage with other parties,” he said.
This strategic collaboration between ODM and the national government reflects a growing trend in Nyanza politics where development and service delivery are increasingly taking center stage ahead of upcoming elections.
