President Salva Kiir has relieved Yeni Samuel Costa as Governor of the Bank of South Sudan (BoSS) and reappointed Johnny Ohisa to the position, seven months after he was removed from the same role, marking his third stint as central bank governor since first serving in 2022.
The decision was announced in a presidential decree read on state television on Thursday evening. No reasons were given for the changes.
Costa was appointed on November 12, 2025, replacing Dr. Addis Ababa Othow, and served during a period of continued economic strain marked by currency depreciation and inflation.
Yeni Samuel Costa served the shortest tenure as Governor of the Bank of South Sudan since 2011, holding the position for just over two months before being replaced by Johnny Ohisa, who returns for his third term.
Ohisa previously served as BoSS governor before being relieved seven months ago. He now returns to the central bank as the government continues efforts to stabilize the economy and restore confidence in the financial system.
The Bank of South Sudan is responsible for monetary policy, banking regulation, and financial stability.
