THE German Embassy in Windhoek has provided over N$460,000 in financial support to the WeCare Foundation for the renovation of the Senior Park retirement home in Windhoek.
“The apartments in the state-owned retirement home have not been properly renovated since 1982 and have only been maintained irregularly. As a result, they are in a very dilapidated condition; almost all of the roofs are leaking. Significant damage has already been identified in 66 apartments, including mold infestation and softened and broken roof tiles,” the German Embassy explained.

The embassy stated that the funding aims to seal the roofs of the 66 affected apartments and repair existing structural damage, including replacing ceiling panels, to protect residents from health risks such as moisture and mold. Renovation efforts will also focus on repairing fallen roof tiles and improving water protection through sealing and structural repairs.
“Our project partner, the WeCare Foundation Namibia, has been supporting the Senior Park retirement home for about 1.5 years and aims to enable the residents of the retirement home to enjoy a dignified standard of living. Amongst other various assistance, it provides a meal once a week, supports various leisure programs, provides medical care for the residents, and tries to carry out the most necessary maintenance work such as gardening, replacing hot water geysers, and paint work,” the embassy added.
