The Minister of Energy and Dams, Agok Makur, has urged EZRA Company to expand electricity production and distribution in Juba to improve power supply and meet growing demand.
The Minister made the call on Thursday after an inspection visit to the EZRA Industrial Park, where he assessed electricity generation and discussed ways to stabilize and expand power supply in the capital.
Agok Makur said he toured several facilities at the industrial park, including power generation units and the solar system, to understand ongoing operations.
He said EZRA Company has taken measures to stabilize electricity production by transporting fuel in batches to ensure continuous generation, although some parts of Juba are still experiencing power cuts.
The Minister said the facility’s management has committed to improving electricity distribution as the government works to address challenges affecting supply.
He revealed that the Ministry of Energy has developed short-term and long-term plans to improve electricity services.
Agok Makur said the short-term plan focuses on extending electricity to all parts of Juba, including areas that currently lack access.
He added that the government is working closely with EZRA Company and JEDCO to expand electricity coverage and ensure a more stable supply for South Sudanese citizens.
The Minister also commended President Salva Kiir Mayardit for directing a reduction in electricity tariffs, saying the move has helped ease the financial burden on residents.
According to the Minister, the EZRA power facility is currently generating 79 megawatts, with plans to add 21 megawatts in the next phase to increase capacity and coverage.
He said the visit marks the start of a series of inspections of power facilities across the country, including planned visits to Nzara and Rumbek, where the Rumbek power plant is expected to open in February.
The Minister reassured the public that despite existing challenges, the government remains committed to improving electricity supply, expanding coverage, and reducing outages through cooperation with private partners.
