CAIRO, Jan 23 (MENA) – Egypt’s stock market hit new record levels last week, with strong gains lifting the market capitalization of listed companies above LE 3.15 trillion for the first time, reflecting improved investor sentiment.
Market capitalization rose by about LE 180 billion to LE 3.153 trillion, up 6.08 percent from LE 2.973 trillion a week earlier.
The benchmark EGX30 index jumped 7.19 percent to a record close of 46,462.32 points, while the EGX70 EWI index of small and mid-cap stocks gained 4.82 percent to 12,784.36 points. The broader EGX100 rose 5.37 percent to 17,317.95 points.
Weekly trading value fell to LE 450.6 billion from LE 667.8 billion the previous week, with bonds and treasury bills accounting for about 91 percent of total turnover, according to the exchange’s weekly report.
