Senator representing Cross River North, Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the All Progressives Congress, APC.
His defection letter was presented during Tuesday’s plenary by Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, who presided over the session.
Jarigbe’s move raises the number of APC senators to 77.
While reading Jarigbe’s letter to members of the Red Chamber, the Deputy Senate President noted that the Cross River senator left the PDP due to an ongoing crisis within the party.
Jibrin also described Jarigbe’s defection to the APC as a “wonderful announcement”.
He said, “Wonderful announcement, you can guess”, Jibrin told his colleagues in the Senate.
Continuing, he added, “Very sweet. Our brother Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, a very very experienced legislator who started from the House of Representatives down to the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and you know when such people are making announcements, you have to listen very well.”
With Jarigbe’s defection, all three senators representing Cross River State are now members of the ruling APC.
The other two senators are Eteng Williams of Cross River Central and Asuquo Ekpenyong of Cross River South.
Last month, Senator Benson Konbowei, representing Bayelsa Central Senatorial District, from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
