A HERD of 15 head of cattle that was initially thought to have strayed in the Oshana Region was in fact stolen and driven away by two suspects, who managed to flee when the animals were recovered by police in the Ohangwena Region this week.
According to police in the Oshana Region, when the 15 head of cattle, valued at N$155,000, went missing on 6 January, the herder did not immediately suspect theft, believing instead that the animals had merely strayed. A case of livestock theft was only registered with the police on Monday.
Meanwhile, the stolen cattle were recovered by police at Ongha in the Ohangwena Region, but the two suspects fled as soon as officers approached them.
