Windhoek, Jan.26 – – Bank Windhoek has achieved a national first by becoming the first financial institution in Namibia to enable cash deposits of the newly upgraded Namibia Dollar banknotes at its Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs). This marks a significant milestone in supporting the country’s currency modernisation efforts.
The Bank is upgrading its ATM network to recognise and securely authenticate the new banknotes introduced by the Bank of Namibia (BoN) in 2025. Customers can now deposit the upgraded N$200, N$100, N$50, N$20, N$10 and commemorative N$30 notes at selected Bank Windhoek cash deposit ATMs countrywide.
Bank Windhoek Chief Operating Officer, Hartwig Rothkegel, said the milestone reflects the Bank’s commitment to innovation and customer service. He said being the first to enable deposits of the upgraded notes ensures a seamless and secure banking experience for customers.
In 2025, the Bank of Namibia introduced redesigned banknotes and coins featuring advanced security elements, including colour-shifting features, transparent and embossed security windows, and tactile enhancements to deter counterfeiting and improve accessibility.
Rothkegel added that further ATM upgrades are underway to reduce rejected notes and improve deposit performance. He said early feedback from custodians indicates that only low-quality notes are being rejected, reflecting improved system stability.
More information on ATM locations and updates will be shared on Bank Windhoek’s social media platforms in due course.
