The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Akuei Bona Malwal, has held talks with the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, to review peace and political developments affecting South Sudan and the wider region.
The talks came after the deputy minister travelled to Addis Ababa on Sunday, leading a delegation from the National Committee for the Settlement of the Final Status of Abyei.
The delegation includes Deng Biong and Deng Arop Kuol.
During the talks, Ambassador Akuei briefed the AU leadership on South Sudan’s internal political progress, including the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement and ongoing preparations for national elections.
The two sides also discussed the situation in Abyei and the need for renewed African Union involvement.
The conflict in Sudan was also addressed, with emphasis placed on resolving the crisis through African-led initiatives and inclusive dialogue.
Ambassador Akuei thanked the African Union for its sustained engagement and reaffirmed South Sudan’s readiness to deepen cooperation with the continental body in support of peace, stability, and regional cooperation.
