The Directorate of Civil Registry and Immigration says the government will pay USD 500,000 each month to a company responsible for producing passport and ID booklets.
The Director of Civil Registry, Nationality, Passport and Immigration, Major General Elia Costa, disclosed the agreement in an exclusive interview with Eye Radio.
Gen. Costa said the payment will be made in return for the monthly supply of passport and nationality booklets.
“According to the agreement signed with the company responsible for producing passports, the agreement stipulates that the government will deposit USD 500,000 on a monthly basis, and in return the company will supply us monthly with passport and nationality booklets,” he explained.
According to the directorate, the agreement is expected to end long waiting queues and address the ongoing passport shortage.
“This will eliminate the waiting queues and resolve the crisis,” he added.
