Former England defender Gary Cahill praised Nottingham Forest right-back Ola Aina after the Super Eagles star delivered the assist that sparked Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Brentford, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Aina’s pinpoint cross found Igor Jesus, who opened the scoring just 12 minutes into the contest at the Gtech Community Stadium.
“Good work by Ola Aina, he gets it in well,” Cahill said on Sky Sports commentary.
“I thought he’d just lost his chance, but it’s a good delivery and a great finish.”
The Nigerian, who returned three weeks ago after suffering an injury on international duty in September, showed he was back to full fitness with an impressive display. His return has been a major boost for Forest, who missed his defensive qualities and attacking threat during his absence.
Taiwo Awoniyi sealed the victory with his first goal in 12 months, finishing brilliantly in the 88th minute after a cameo appearance.
The win eased Forest’s relegation concerns and lifted them further up the Premier League table. Aina’s presence on the side has clearly improved the team’s balance, with his ability to drive forward and create chances, adding an extra dimension to Forest’s play.
While Nicolo Savona deputised well during Aina’s injury lay-off, Forest clearly lost quality on the defensive side without the Nigeria international.
