About 3,000 patients in Terekeka County, Central Equatoria State, have received medical treatment during a three-day free medical camp organized by the South Sudan Doctors’ Union.
The medical camp began on Friday and concluded on Sunday, January 25, 2026.
It brought together a team of specialist doctors from Juba, including gynaecologists, general surgeons, orthopaedic specialists, internal medicine physicians, and dermatologists.
Speaking at the conclusion of the camp in Terekeka County, the Chairperson of the South Sudan Doctors’ Union, Dr. Zachariah Ajak, said the initiative met its initial target by treating more than 2,000 patients, with the total number reaching nearly 3,000.
“We are happy to have completed the three days and helped the people of Terekeka,” Dr. Ajak said.
“On the first day we received 500 patients, the second day 1,200 patients, and on the third day 1,400 patients, bringing the total to over 3,000. This was our initial target.”
He said the diversity of specialists involved was aimed at addressing a wide range of medical needs within the community.
The Commissioner of Terekeka County, Dr. Emmanuel Lado, commended the Doctors’ Union for bringing the free medical services to the area, describing the initiative as timely and impactful.
“It has been three days and I am very grateful to the South Sudan Doctors’ Union for bringing these services to Terekeka,” Dr. Lado said.
“Our plan is to localize health services in the area, which is why we have established the county hospital and are taking the remaining steps to complete it. We truly appreciate the doctors.”
Local authorities say initiatives such as the medical camp help improve access to healthcare for rural communities with limited medical services.
