Senior Presidential Envoy for Special Programs Adut Salva Kiir on Saturday officially relaunched construction of the Bahr el Ghazal highway, a key road linking Juba to Wau and other towns in the region, after months of delays.
The project, which had stalled for some time, has now been returned to its original contractor, Shandong High-Speed Construction Company, according to the Office of the Senior Presidential Envoy.
The highway was previously taken over by Africa Resource Company (ARC), a firm linked to former Vice President Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel, before the government decided to revert the project to the Chinese construction company.
Adut officiated the relaunch ceremony along the Terekeka County–Awerial County stretch, about 113 kilometers north of Juba, marking the resumption of work on the vital transport corridor.
She was accompanied by the Minister of Roads and Bridges, Peter Lam Both, Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony, and the newly appointed Lakes State Governor Madhang Majok Meen, alongside other senior government officials.
Speaking at the event, Adut said the resumption of work reflects President Salva Kiir’s directive to fast-track stalled infrastructure projects, emphasizing that the road will enhance national connectivity, trade, and livelihoods across the Bahr el Ghazal region.
