A second construction worker has been rescued from a collapsed trench at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.
The man was one of two trapped when a trench collapsed at a construction site on Friday.
According to V&A Waterfront spokesperson Donald Kau, the incident occurred at 14:00 on the East Pier, where an infrastructure repair project was taking place.
The two workers were trapped but were saved by the protection shoring that formed part of the trench they were working in.
One worker was retrieved first and treated by paramedics on site, while the rescue operation continued for the second, who remained trapped but was said to be conscious and communicating.

Kau said the worker had now been rescued.
“The second worker has been retrieved and is being taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained.”
The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness’ Emergency Medical Services (EMS) spokesperson, Shimoney Regter, said that teams responded to an incident.
“EMS crews were at the scene with specialised rescue partners, including the City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service and the South African Police Service, to support the ongoing rescue operation,” she added.
“Two patients were extricated and transported to the hospital by private emergency medical services.”
Regter said no further patient information was available at this time.
