Authorities in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area are investigating the killing of a 42-year-old farmer who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen while working in his garden on Thursday evening.
Greater Pibor Information Minister Jacob Werchum Juok said the incident occurred on Thursday at about 3:00 p.m. in Verteth County while the farmer was working on his land.
He stated that unidentified gunmen ambushed the farmer and fatally shot him.
“Yesterday evening at around 3PM local time an unidentified gunmen ambushed a farm and killed a 42-year-old farmer. The culprits disappeared in the bushes despite the presence of the security forces there, it happened in Bertet county. There is an investigation going on,” he said.
The deceased farmer was identified as Lorily Lyani.
Minister Werchum added that despite the deployment of security forces in the area, the perpetrators managed to flee without a trace.
