A public analyst, Mahdi Shehu, has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to confer the Grand Commander of the Order of Niger national honor on businessman Gilbert Chagoury.
In a statement on his X account, he mocked the Tinubu administration, saying he should also replace Vice President Kashim Shettima with Chagoury.
He mockingly added that the nation’s capital, Abuja, should be renamed Chagoury.
“Beyond the ‘French gift’ of GCON, Tinubu should appoint Chagoury as his vice president and drop Kashim Shettima. He should in addition, rename Abuja as Chagoury enclave and let the name of Nigeria be changed to Lebanon so that the cature circle will be complete and slavery reintroduced”, he wrote on X.
DAILY POST reports that on Monday, Tinubu’s conferment of the GCON honor became public after Nigerian billionaire businessman Femi Otedola congratulated him.
The honour had stirred controversies in the last 24 hours.
The former spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress had also condemned the honour, saying, “Nigeria has become a place where corruption is rewarded.”
