For a similar price to a small entry-level hatchback, South African buyers will be able to get behind the wheel of JAC’s new 4×2 single-cab bakkie. Expected to launch mid-year, the JAC T6 2.0L CTi 1-tonne is priced from R299 900 with the T6 2.0L CTi 4×2 Lux at R314 900.
The T6 is not new to the South African vehicle market and has been around since it was launched locally in 2018.
“Our new T6 single-cab workhorse is a rugged, value-for-money all-rounder, combining comfort with a proven, fuel-efficient turbo-diesel engine. Its versatility suits urban, open-road and demanding fleet applications, meeting transport operators’ and entrepreneurs’ needs for durability, dependability and low maintenance costs,” says Karl-Heinz Göbel, CEO of JAC Motors South Africa.
According to JAC, fuel economy and reliability were emphasised in the development of the 2.0-litre direct-injection common-rail turbo-diesel engine. Power readings of 102kW and 320Nm won’t threaten the premium bakkie brands, but recorded fuel economy figures of 6.1 L/100 km (and 8.0 L/100km with a 750kg load) will keep running costs down. The engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission.

The two-seater cabin is equipped with the basics, such as air conditioning, power steering, electric windows, and a height-adjustable, leather-trimmed multi-function steering wheel. Adding a splash of technology is the multi-information display, remote keyless entry, central locking with speed-sensing door locks and rear park distance sensors. The T6 Comfort features a Bluetooth radio system. Dual airbags ensure safety, and despite rear drum brakes, it still comes with ABS and Electronic Brake Distribution.
Considering the small price difference, the LUX version offers even better value thanks to a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. The Lux also adds a reverse camera and leatherette trim.
Both derivatives include a USB and 12V power socket, housed in a closable centre console compartment.
The new T6 2.0L CTi single-cab includes a 5-year or 100 000km manufacturer’s warranty and 24-hour roadside assistance for the same period. The first service is due at 10 000km or 12 months, and thereafter, every 15 000km or 12 months.
