Hossam Hassan, head coach of the Egyptian national football team, has pointed out that Nigeria had the capability to advance to the AFCON final.
However, he recognized that unforeseen circumstances contributed to their semi-final loss against Morocco.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday before Egypt’s AFCON third-place final match against Nigeria on Saturday, Hassan also reflected on both teams’ journey.
Recall that the Super Eagles lost 4-2 on penalties against Morocco, while the Pharaohs lost 1-0 against Senegal during normal time.
“We will be facing a formidable opponent, Nigeria. We played a friendly match with them before leaving Cairo for Morocco,” Hassan told reporters.
“They are a great squad that reached the AFCON semifinals. They could’ve made it to the final, but things happened otherwise. Hopefully, we’ll win this bronze medal.”
