HIGH COURT UPDATE: The appeal hearing in which five individuals implicated in the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor) are appealing the denial of bail by the lower Windhoek Magistrate’s Court has been postponed to mid-February after the parties in the matter did not file all required documents relating to the case on time. As such, High Court appeal judges Eileen Rakow and Philanda Christiaans postponed the matter for a hearing on a condonation application. The parties who did not file their heads of argument on time include Immanuel Mulunga, Olivia Dunaiski, and Jennifer Hamukwaya. The accused, Peter and Malakia Elindi, Dunaiski, Mulunga, and Hamukwaya, have been in jail since July 2025 and are now seeking to overturn a decision by Magistrate Linus Simunzala denying them bail. They stand accused of defrauding the state oil company, Namcor, of over N$400 million in a scheme that allegedly involved the sale of phantom assets as well as credit fraud. Photos: File
