MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s federal government is preparing to take further action against the United Arab Emirates following repeated violations of a ban on its cargo and military aircraft landing at Somali airports, according to Somali security sources cited by journalist Harun Maruf.
The sources reported that one of six UAE cargo and military planes, previously allowed to use Somali airports, breached the government’s restrictions twice on Friday and Saturday.
In response, Somali authorities have signaled their intent to intensify measures against the UAE for its continued noncompliance.
The ban applies exclusively to military and cargo flights and does not affect UAE civilian carriers, including FlyDubai.
The tensions center on allegations that Yemeni separatist leader Aidarous Al Zoubaidi was moved through Somali airspace and airports via UAE military aircraft without government authorization. Somali authorities view this as a direct breach of national sovereignty, intensifying a diplomatic rift with Abu Dhabi.
